Cheshire Police have issued a statement confirming they are launching an investigation into a catastrophic crash in a British Supersport race at Oulton Park, which claimed two lives. Riders Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, .

Racing was abandoned at the Cheshire circuit as paramedics rushed to attend the scene of an 11-bike crash in the very first corner of the race. The remainder of the day's scheduled racing was cancelled after the two devastating deaths were confirmed by authorities.

Cheshire Police's statement read: "Police are investigating two deaths on behalf of the coroner following a multiple collision at Oulton Park this afternoon (Monday 5 May).

"Emergency services were called to the scene following the collision which resulted in two riders being fatally injured and another with serious injuries.

"Due to the severity of the incident and ongoing medical intervention, the remainder of the event was cancelled. The two riders who sadly died have been named as Owen Jenner (21) and Shane Richardson (29).

"The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing are investigating the full circumstances of the incident in conjunction with the Coroner and Cheshire Police."

Jenner, who hailed from Crowborough in East Sussex, began his racing career in Junior Motorcross before making the move to asphalt in 2018. He won the Junior Supersport title in 2020 and then went on to claim the British GP2 Championship crown last season in a dominant campaign, winning 18 out of 20 races.

Richardson was a more senior driver and had returned to British shores following two years out of the sport when he moved to his native New Zealand. His success there prompted a move to the British Supersport Championship.

Six more riders were injured in the tragic incident, as a statement released by MotorSport Vision Racing said: "Tom Tunstall (47) was initially treated on the track and was taken to the circuit medical centre, he was later transferred to Royal Stoke University Hospital with significant back and abdominal injuries.

"A further five riders were transferred to the circuit medical centre with minor injuries, which did not require transfer to hospital. These riders were #9 Carl Harris, #39 Max Morgan, #48 Cameron Hall, #78 Freddie Barnes, #95 Morgan -Wood.

"Three further riders were also involved but were uninjured. These riders were #25 Lewis Jones, #37 Corey Tinker and #90 George Edwards."
