When there is international representation it is often amusing by how Indian heritage is represented as well. At this fashion fiesta it wasnt King Khan or fashion queen Isha Ambani actress Kiara Advani or vibrant singer Diljit Dosanjh but one Indian philanthropist who reimaged the theme with Indian culture and how! It was Natasha Poonawalla who wore a vibrant ensemble comprising of vintage sarees Indian craftsmanship and so much more. She wore a custom design by Manish Malhotra who also made his Met Gala debut.
Met Gala 2025: Decoding Natasha Poonawallas Royal Indian Look
Trust Natasha Poonawalla to elevate the fashion quotient at every event in a sartorial manner that is always grand. Thats the Poonawalla style. For the Met Gala look this year she decided to don something that is an ode to her Parsi roots. The theme of Mata Gala 2025 was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style; it was basically redefining and reimaging the Black Dandyism style evolution. For this Poonawalla and Malhotra re-interpreted the style reframing weaves through Indian lens and honoured her Parsi ancestry.
At the core: there is a sculpted fishtail skirt reengineered from two vintage Gara saris one a century-old relic from our archives recreated its surface an exquisite tapestry of hand-embroidered silken threads echoing generations of craftsmanship. Anchoring the look is a corset-cummerbund paired with a vintage French lace bralette edged in scalloped pearls capturing the essence of dandyism where restraint meets regality in meticulously tailored form. Draped above it all: a sharply tailored black Gara jacket with bold shoulders lined in imperial purple a hue long associated with power mysticism and nobility and embroidered in the sacred ektaar technique where one continuous thread carries an unbroken narrative defined the designer.
Natasha Poonawalla was dripping with pearls quite literally. Her magnificent statement ring with a huge emerald sitting in the centre is a hard miss.
