The Mumbai Police on Monday said that they are unable to track and reach actor Ajaz Khan as his mobile phone has remained switched off after an FIR was launched against him over charges of rape and sexual assault.
According to Mumbai Police, the actor has not been in “contact" with the police ever since a woman filed the complaint accusing him of rape. The FIR was filed at Mumbai’s Charkop Police Station.
“Case registered at Charkop Police Station against actor Ajaz Khan for allegedly raping an actress. Police tried to contact him after registering the FIR, but his number has been switched off since then. He is not in contact with the Police. The Police reached him, but he was not present there. Police are searching for him," news agency ANI quoted Mumbai Police as saying.
A woman, reportedly an actress, has accused Khan of sexually assaulting her while promising marriage.
According to the actress, Khan offered her a role in his OTT project House Arrest and other ventures. She alleged that during the show’s production, he proposed marriage and made repeated assurances. The complainant claimed that on March 25, Khan raped her at his home, using the promise of marriage as a pretext. She further accused him of assaulting her again a few days later, reinforcing the same commitment.
The actress also reported that Khan told her his religion permits four marriages and vowed to take full responsibility for her. Authorities are actively investigating the matter.
The police registered the case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 64, 64(2)(M), 69, and 74, and an investigation has been initiated.
The actor is currently embroiled in another legal matter concerning the Ullu app’s program, ‘House Arrest’, which he hosted. The Amboli Police in Mumbai have issued summons to Khan and the owner of the Ullu app after the platform was accused of streaming obscene content.
A clip of Khan went viral online in which he was seen asking the contestants of House Arrest, including women, to act out sex positions. A row erupted after the clip went viral, and political party leaders also reacted to it. Several netizens also criticised the show by sharing a clip online.
The FIR was filed based on a complaint by a Bajrang Dal activist, Gautam Ravriya.
