Sezen Aksu, a legendary Turkish singer, sold her music catalog for $18 million.

Universal Music Group (UMG) has announced the acquisition of legendary Turkish artist Sezen Aksu’s music catalog. According to reports, UMG paid the iconic singer-songwriter $18 million (approximately 695 million Turkish Lira) for the rights.
In a statement regarding the acquisition, Nazan Haciguzeller, Managing Director of Universal Music Turkeysaid:
“We are thrilled to become the custodians of this incredibly successful catalog. We have always admired Sezen Aksu, one of Türkiye’s most accomplished songwriters and producers. We believe this catalog holds tremendous potential, and we will work hard to ensure Sezen Aksu’s music continues to be appreciated around the world in the years to come. We look forward to working closely with Sezen Aksu and her team as Universal Music Group continues to grow in such a dynamic market.”

Sezen Aksu sold more than 40 million albums

The catalog includes 21 singles and 30 albums, making Aksu one of the most prolific and successful artists in Turkish music history. To date, she has sold more than 40 million physical albums worldwide.
The company also highlighted that Aksu has been the most-streamed female artist in Türkiye on Spotify for the past seven years, with around six million monthly listeners.
Although the rights have been sold, Sezen Aksu will retain management control over her songs.
