At least 14 people have died in Gujarat after thunderstorms, heavy winds, and dust storms struck several areas in the state. Officials gave this update on Tuesday, saying many parts of Gujarat were badly affected by sudden, unseasonal rain.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 168 out of 253 talukas in the state received rain in the last 24 hours. Districts like Kheda, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, and Vadodara recorded between 25 to 40 mm of rainfall.
The rain was accompanied by strong winds that uprooted trees, broke hoardings, and caused parts of houses to collapse. Many people were injured in these incidents.
What caused the deaths?
The SEOC said that 13 people died on Monday alone in districts such as Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Dahod, Aravalli, and Vadodara. Another person died in a lightning strike in Viramgam, Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Kheda district reported the highest number of deaths (4), followed by Vadodara (3), and 2 each in Ahmedabad, Dahod, and Aravalli. One person died in Anand.
Fire caused by wind
In Dahod district’s Limkheda area, strong winds spread a fire that destroyed over a dozen huts. Officials said the flames spread too quickly due to the wind.
More bad weather coming
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 50-60 kmph are likely to continue across many parts of Gujarat for the next few days.
It also said that isolated places in Banaskantha, Kutch, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Anand districts may receive heavy rain.
Due to the rain, daytime temperatures have dropped across many parts of the state. The IMD has predicted a further fall of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
