However, his supposed ally Oh Young-il (Lee Byung-hun) reverted to his clandestine role as the Front Man, thwarting the rebellion and killing Gi-hun's close mate Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).
The fresh trailer carries on this narrative, showing Gi-hun being returned to the dormitory in a coffin, where he is seemingly forced to remain handcuffed between games, reports .
We also get a glimpse of another game where the participants are made to choose different coloured balls to form teams, separating mother and son Jang Geum-ja (Kang Ae-shim) and Park Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun) for the first time. Additionally, there's more behind-the-scenes action with the Front Man, police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) and the games' armed guards.
Fans will be excited to see the return of the enigmatic VIPs who made such an impact during the end of Squid Game's debut season.
But one detail from the trailer that was saved until the very end has caused quite a stir.
Once the title, Squid Game 3, appears on screen, a baby's cry can be distinctly heard, hinting that Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) might be bringing a new life into the fold.
The trailer drop on sparked an immediate buzz amongst viewers, who quickly spilled into the comments section to voice their anguish and make predictions about the newborn's fate in the upcoming season.
Fans couldn't contain their emotions with one blurting out, "I HEARD A BABY CRYING, JUN HEE GAVE BIRTH OMG," while another's response was the impassioned plea, "SAVE THE BABY."
Meanwhile, a third chimed in with kudos for the teaser's efficacy: "The way this teaser didn't even need dialogue but still managed to give me absolute chills."
Another viewer broke down the teaser's emotional impact, noting, "The way this teaser gave ZERO dialogue but managed to scream chaos, betrayal, and bloodshed... Gi-hun's back, the Front Man's lurking, and that baby cry at the end??
"Nah, Season 3 is about to destroy us mentally and emotionally. I'm not ready, but also... I NEED IT NOW."
A particularly moved comment came from a fan reaching for the tissues: "They purposefully added the baby's cry separately I'm sobbing."
And yet another shared their haunting reaction: "That baby cry and seeing the mom and son looking at each other like that just sent chills down my spine."
With the third instalment of Netflix's Squid Game set to be an unmissable event, fans should undoubtedly mark their diaries for its highly anticipated release.
