Olympique de Marseille are in advanced negotiations to sign Spanish international Aymeric Laporte (30), according to Provence. The move is dependent on OM securing direct qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.
With just two games left in the Ligue 1 season, The Olympians are pushing to return to Europe’s premier club competition—and preparations are already underway behind the scenes. One key area identified for strengthening is the defence, where sporting director Mehdi Benatia and head coach Roberto De Zerbi aim to bring in experience and leadership.
Among the top names on Marseille’s shortlist is Laporte, currently at Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, where he moved from Manchester City in 2023 for a reported €30m. OM previously attempted to sign the defender in January and have maintained contact since.
The former Athletic Club centre-back is said to be keen on a return to Europe. While his current deal in Saudi Arabia runs until 2026, sources suggest he could be released from his contract this summer—especially if Marseille can offer Champions League football.
