has sent a message of congratulations to Bayern Munich for their Bundesliga title triumph - with the former Arsenal man vowing Bayer Leverkusen 'will definitely be back'. From an English perspective, significance of arose from the fact it is 's first-ever career trophy.

The national side's captain, 31, had made the difficult decision to leave two years ago to go in search of the silverware that had evaded him throughout his time in his homeland.

And the Bundesliga title race was settled on Sunday night when Leverkusen drew with SC Freiburg, meaning they cannot catch their rivals in the final two matches of the season.

His message transcended a rivalry both with Kane, who he has faced on the field in north London derbies 15 times and now in Germany a further six times, not to mention Bayern as a whole.

"We tried until the end, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. We conceded stupid goals and dropped too many points against opponents we really should have beaten," the 32-year-old admitted - as he also promised: "We'll definitely be back on the attack next season."

In the summer Kane left Spurs for Bayern, the club had just collected their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title and were expected to continue their dominance.

At the same time Xhaka departed for Leverkusen, approaching their first full season under manager Xabi Alonso - who had pulled off an incredible job the year before to take the club from the relegation places and into the Europa League.

What followed was unprecedented - Leverkusen went all season unbeaten in domestic competitions to win a league and cup double, leaving Kane's search for a trophy to continue.

They remained Germany's top-two clubs for the 2024/25 season and have produced another thrilling title race.
