Mumbai: A tragic road accident occurred near Vikhroli Western Railway Station on Monday when BEST bus number 499, operating on the Ghatkopar to Mulund route, rammed into a car from behind. The collision happened in a high-traffic zone and was captured on CCTV footage, which is going viral on social media.
The video surfaced that the BEST bus was moving at a high speed when it failed to slow down and hit the car that was either slowing or not moving. The impact left the car visibly damaged, especially at the rear, and caused two of its passengers to suffer injuries. Fortunately, no major injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Vikhroli Park Side police responded quickly to the scene. The driver of the bus, who has been identified but not yet named publicly, was taken into custody shortly after the accident.
A formal case has been registered against him, and further legal action is expected as the investigation progresses. The accident has once again raised concerns about the safety standards and driving practices of public transport vehicles in Mumbai. While BEST services are a vital part of the city’s daily commute.
BEST Bus Fare Hike Likely From May 8
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is set to roll out revised bus fares starting May 8, pending the formal signing of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) meeting minutes. Although an official notification hasn't been issued yet, the fare hike was approved during an important MMRTA meeting on April 30.
According to a report by the Times of India, "A circular with the revised fare charts and implementation instructions has already been circulated to select traffic division officials."
