New Delhi: In a rain-curtailed encounter at the Wankhede Stadium Gujarat Titans (GT) pulled off a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) via the DLS method chasing a revised target of 147 in 19 overs. Mumbai Indians after being asked to bat posted 155/8 in their 20 overs. Their innings never quite took off after losing opener Rickelton for a duck in just the second ball. Rohit Sharma (7 off 8) followed soon after leaving MI reeling early. However a steady stand between Will Jacks (53 off 35) and Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 24) revived the innings. After their dismissals MI faltered again losing quick wickets in the middle order. Contributions from Corbin Bosch (27 off 22) and tailenders Chahar (8*) and Karn Sharma (1*) took MI past the 150-mark. For GT Sai Kishore (2/32) and Rashid Khan (1/21) were effective in the middle overs while Arshad Khan and Gerald Coetzee chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. In response GT lost Sai Sudharsan early but skipper Shubman Gill anchored the innings with a composed 43 off 46 balls. Jos Buttler (30 off 27) added impetus before falling to Ashwani Kumar. GT looked in control at 113/2 but stumbled in the middle overs losing Gill Rutherford (28 off 15) and Shahrukh Khan in quick succession. The match then took a dramatic turn with rain interruptions. When the play resumed GT needed 9 off the last over with 3 wickets in hand. Tension peaked as Gerald Coetzee hit a six but was dismissed the next ball. With one needed off the last ball Arshad Khan punched the ball to mid-off and sprinted for a single sealing a nervy win as MI failed to execute a run-out. The match had all the ingredients of a classic—tight bowling explosive batting rain-induced drama and a nail-biting finish. Gujarat Titans’ ability to stay composed in the final overs despite losing wickets proved decisive. With this win GT showcased depth and resilience while MI will rue missed chances and a lack of finishing discipline in the field.
