In a bold step toward future-ready education, the UAE government has announced the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence as a core subject in all government schools. Starting from the 2026 academic year, students as young as four will begin learning AI concepts, replacing crayons and storybooks with interactive tech-based learning experiences.
This groundbreaking decision was shared by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. In a post on X, he emphasized that the goal is to build a deep technical understanding of AI in students, while also nurturing their ethical awareness of this transformative technology. The move is part of the UAE’s long-term plan to equip future generations with advanced, future-proof skills.
The AI curriculum will cover a wide range of topics including foundational concepts, data and algorithms, ethical AI practices, innovation, project design, and real-world applications. Each module will be adapted to suit the student’s age and learning level. For kindergartners, lessons will use visual tools and playful activities to introduce basic concepts.
The AI subject will be rolled out in three structured phases.
Specially trained teachers will lead these AI classes. The Ministry of Education will provide detailed lesson plans and guides to help instructors implement the curriculum effectively. The initiative reflects a national strategy to transform education in alignment with global technological advancements.
With this futuristic move, the UAE aims to prepare its youth for a world where AI will play a central role in all industries. This decision sets a global benchmark and highlights the UAE’s proactive approach to shaping a skilled, responsible, and tech-savvy generation.
