Wedding season and gold shopping

The time of weddings has now started, and during this time there is a significant increase in gold purchases in India. If you are planning to buy gold coins or jewelery, make sure that you always ask for a hallmark exchange bill. In addition, the bill given by the jeweler should have all the necessary information.

When you buy jewelery, the bill must have the following information. According to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), it is mandatory to get an official bill or invoice of the object with a hallmark from retailer or jeweler. This is necessary in case of any dispute or complaint.

According to BIS guidelines, the bill issued by the jeweler should contain complete details of the object with the hallmark. It should include the details of each item, pure weight, purity and beauty in the carat, hallmarking fee, gold price on the date of purchase, the value of a gem or diamond, and the weight and price of gems (if any). In addition, the total amount paid by the buyer should also be clearly mentioned in the bill.

If you have any doubt about the purity of gold, you can get any BIS recognized assay and hallmarking (A&H) to get a check done. You will be charged a minor fee for this. The list of BIS recognized assay and hallmarking centers is available on the website of BIS, which you can see directly.
