In the Nagaur district of Rajasthan, the contract brothers have filled the dowry of Rs 21 crore 11 lakh in the marriage of their nephew. It is being told that this is the biggest dowry to date and this grand dowry has created a stir on social media. Actually, in Rajasthan, Bhaat is also called Mayra. The tradition of Bhaat is quite popular in many states of North India and it is also a special ritual performed in Indian weddings. You all must have heard the story of Narsi's Bhaat, in which Lord Krishna filled the Bhaat at the house of devotee Narsi and saved the honor of the entire family and the village. But have you ever wondered why only the maternal uncle of the girl or boy fills the Bhaat, why other people in his family like an aunt, aunt, etc. do not fill the Bhaat? Let us know why only the maternal uncle fills the Bhaat…

What is Bhaat tradition?

Many traditions and customs are performed at Indian weddings, one of them is Bhaat. In many places, Mayra is also called Bhaat. This tradition is not from today but has been followed for many centuries. In this tradition, the brother takes Bhaat for the marriage of his sister's children i.e. nephew or niece. This Bhaat includes money, jewelry, clothes, car etc. Not all these things need to be there in the Bhaat, people also fill Bhaat according to their status. That is, the more wealth a person has, he fills that much Mayra or Bhaat.

Now the question arises of when and who started the ritual of Bhaat. Why does only the maternal uncle of the boy or girl fill the Bhaat, why do other family members like aunt or paternal aunt not complete this ritual? When research was done about this, two stories came out, one is historical and the other is mythical.

The story of Narsi's Bhaat
The first story is from the 15th century, which is of Narsi's Bhaat. This story is popular, in which Lord Krishna fills the Bhaat. There was a devotee of Lord Krishna, among whom was Narsi. Narsi's daughter's name was Sulchana Bai, whom he had married earlier. It was the wedding of Narsi's daughter's daughter, i.e., granddaughter. Narsi had no son, so before the wedding, Narsi himself went to the girl's house. Narsi's daughter's in-laws gave a long list for Bhaat. Narsi himself was so poor that he used to beg for food every day, so how could he arrange for Bhaat for the wedding? Narsi ji was worried and the date of Bhaat was also coming near. Then Narsi remembered Lord Krishna. God is always waiting for his devotee and on Narsi's request, Krishna ji came running and arranged Bhaat for the daughter of devotee Narsi's daughter. The story of Bhaat of devotee Narsi is very popular and many folk tales have also been made on this Bhaat. It is said that the ritual of giving Bhaat started from then.

The story of Rana Sanga's Bhaat
The second incident is related to Rana Sanga. Rana Sanga is Maharana Pratap's grandfather Sangram Singh or Rana Sanga. According to the story, one day Rana Sanga went out hunting and it took him the whole day and the day ended. In the evening Rana Sanga felt hungry and seeing a hut nearby he asked for directions. The woman living in the hut fed Rana Sanga. Rana Sanga asked the woman why she was so sad. Then the woman said that she had no father and all her brothers had died. Now who would feed her daughter? Rana Sanga said that you don't worry about it. Then Rana Sanga became her brother and fed her daughter's bhaat.

Why does only the maternal uncle feed the bhaat?

Now the question arises why does only the maternal uncle feed the bhaat, and why can't any other member complete this ritual? The maternal side of the mother has the feeling of motherhood and it is considered to be inert. The rice brought by the maternal uncle in the bhaat is considered to be the abode of Lord Vishnu and this rice is also a symbol of increasing the lineage. Also, Mama is made up of two words Maa. The love between a brother and a sister is paramount and the children of a sister are revered by the uncle. Whatever the uncle gives as a gift to his sister's children, that gift protects them from obstacles in their lives in the form of a blessing. That is why Bhaat or Mayra is given by the uncle only.

The moon is strong
Any gift given by an uncle to his nephew or niece is considered a very auspicious omen. Since ancient times, the uncle loves the children more than the mother. Whatever the children are unable to say to their mother or father, they easily say to the uncle and the uncle also solves the problems of his nephew or niece. In Indian traditions, you must have seen that children insist on going to their maternal uncle or maternal grandfather's house during summer vacations. They do this because there the children get more love, affection, and respect. According to astrological opinion, by taking food or any other thing from the maternal uncle's house and given by the uncle, the position of the planet Moon in the horoscope becomes strong. Moon is the planet responsible for the mind and mother and when the position of the Moon is strong in the horoscope then the mind will remain calm.
