In an attempt to overcome the odds in Wednesday’s pivotal Champions League semi-final second leg matchup with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has encouraged his side to “stick together” in the wake of their previous setbacks.
In order to get to the Champions League final for the second time in their history, the Gunners must defeat the French champions when they travel to the Parc des Princes. After Ousmane Dembele gave the Parisians the victory in the first leg in north London, Mikel Arteta’s team is down by a goal.
After defeating Manchester City in the group stage, PSG has already eliminated Premier League winners Liverpool in the Round of 16 and Aston Villa in the quarterfinals. This season, Arsenal is about to become PSG’s next English victim.
They lost to Bournemouth 1-2 at home on Saturday in the Premier League, making it impossible for their preparations for the second leg in Paris to go any worse.
After two heartbreaking defeats, Arteta said that Arsenal was filled with “rage and anger” and encouraged his players to utilize their annoyance as motivation against Luis Enrique’s squad. Gunners skipper Odegaard agreed.
Odegaard said, “We’re disappointed right now, but we have to move on, be strong, and stick together to prepare for a massive game.”
“You are free to express all of your feelings against PSG, including disappointment, anger, and frustration. We are aware of our goals,” he said.
Arsenal will be looking to replicate their Cup Winners Cup triumph from 1994. When the Gunners faced a PSG team with George Weah and David Ginola in the semi-final thirty-one years ago, they were the underdogs, yet they won 2-1 on aggregate. It will rank among the best outcomes in Arsenal’s history if they can overcome the deficit against this version of PSG.
