Moulana Sajid Rashidi in Ranchi: Amid the ongoing debate over the status of Waqf properties in the country and the rights of the Muslim community, Maulana Muhammad Sajid Rashidi, President of the All India Imam Association, has termed the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 as historic. He also made sharp attacks on the Congress Party and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress government. He said that this bill is a revolutionary step towards protecting the rights of Muslims.
'Congress used Muslims for 70 years'
Maulana Rashidi clearly said that the Congress party used Muslims only as a vote bank in the last 70 years. Congress did not formulate any concrete policy for the education, health, employment or protection of religious properties of Muslims.
Congress gave Waqf land to builders and its leaders – Maulana RashidiGiving the example of 250 bigha Waqf land in Delhi, he said that the Congress governments, after occupying that land, neither returned it to the Muslims nor used it for education or health services. On the contrary, they handed over that land to their close builders and leaders. This did not happen only in Delhi. In states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan too, occupation of Waqf properties and scams have been common, which expose the policy and intentions of the Congress.
Maulana also attacked Mamta BanerjeeAttacking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said that when she (Mamata Banerjee) said that the Waqf law will not be implemented in Bengal, it became clear that Muslim interests are only a vote bank weapon for her. Why did Muslims come out on the streets despite her statement? Why were there protests? Why were there lathicharges and cases registered against Muslim protesters in Bengal? This is shameful. Rashidi asked that if this law is for the welfare of Muslims, then why oppose it?
'Congress did not implement the report of Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra'Rashidi referred to the reports of the Sachar Committee, Ranganath Mishra and other study reports and said that all these revealed the poor condition of Muslims, but the Congress never implemented those recommendations. Whereas today the Modi government has paved the way for Waqf reforms based on the principles of transparency, e-governance and accountability.
Now the Muslims have awakened – Maulana Sajid RashidiMaulana Rashidi said, 'Now the Muslims have awakened. Now we do not have to limit our children only to madrassas, but give them access to mainstream education, technical skills and administrative services. For this it is necessary that our properties, especially Waqf properties, are safe and useful.'
'Modi ji should look upon Muslim society as a 'reserve force''He said, 'We appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to see the Muslim community as a 'reserve force'. A force that stands shoulder to shoulder with the nation and wants development, not hatred.'
Maulana's appeal- We have to focus on the work of leaders and not on their wordsMaulana appealed to the Muslim community and said that now they have to focus on the work of the leaders and not on their words. He said, 'Who builds schools for our children? Who protects our land? Who secures our records on digital platforms? These are the real questions.'
'Wakf Amendment Act is a symbol of transparency and accountability'Maulana Rashidi also said that the Waqf Amendment Act is not just for the welfare of Muslims but is a symbol of transparency and accountability of the entire society. In such a situation, any party which opposes it is not only standing against the interest of the Muslim society but also against progress and justice. Mohammad Kamal Khan, Rafia Naz and Tariq Imran along with others were present on this occasion.
