Here on Wednesday, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by a margin of two wickets, therefore eliminating the reigning champions from the IPL playoff picture.
Dewald Brevis led CSK in scoring with 52 off only 25 balls, while Shivam Dube and skipper MS Dhoni contributed with 45 and 17 not out, respectively, as they chased down the total of 180 with two balls remaining. The most effective bowler for KKR was Vaibhav Arora (3/48) while Varun Chakaravarthy (2/18) and Harshit Rana (2/43) each claimed two wickets.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) held Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to 179/6 in their 20 overs with to an outstanding 4-31 from left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad.
Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of KKR, scored the most runs (48 off 33 balls) on a slow pitch, with Andre Russell and Sunil Narine following closely after with 38 and 26, respectively. However, KKR was prevented from beyond the 180-run mark by CSK’s spin-squeeze, which was spearheaded by Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor’s four-fer. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who chose to bat first, smashed a four and a six before flicking off Anshul Kamboj straight to midwicket. KKR finished with 67/1 after Rahane came in and blasted three fast boundaries before Narine smacked him for three fours and a six during the power play.
Shortly after, however, MS Dhoni swiftly whipped off the bails and was out for 26 from 17 balls as Narine attempted a huge hoick and was beaten on it by Noor. Angkrish Raghuvanshi was then removed by Noor after Dhoni caught him behind a fantastic googly. Consequently, KKR failed to establish any boundaries in overs 7–10.
