Over 12.7 million women in Madhya Pradesh are waiting for the next installment of the Ladli Behna Yojana, which is expected to be credited after May 15. However, a larger section of women — those still waiting to register — have now spent nearly two years in uncertainty, hoping the government will reopen new registrations for the scheme.

What Is the Current Status of the Ladli Behna Scheme?

Launched on January 28, 2023, the Ladli Behna Yojana was a flagship welfare initiative by the Madhya Pradesh government aimed at empowering married, divorced, widowed, or abandoned women aged 21 to 59 years. The scheme was a major factor in BJP's return to power in the state elections that year.

Currently, ₹1,250 is credited each month to the bank accounts of over 1.27 crore registered women. This costs the state exchequer approximately ₹1,550 crore per month.

However, new registrations were halted in August 2023, and since then, lakhs of eligible women have been left waiting — unable to join the scheme despite fulfilling the eligibility criteria.

When Will the Next Installment Be Credited?

Beneficiaries can expect the next installment of ₹1,250 to be transferred anytime after May 15. Initially, funds used to arrive by the 10th of every month, but the date has now shifted to 15th–16th, reportedly due to delays in budget disbursal from the Centre.

What About New Registrations?

Many were hoping that recent meetings led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav would bring an update on reopening registrations. However, no announcement has been made yet. According to a Times of India report citing government officials, the process of reopening registrations may still take time due to ongoing policy decisions and administrative delays.

So for now, new applicants will have to wait longer, with no fixed timeline available.

Will the Monthly Amount Be Increased?

At the launch of the scheme, beneficiaries were promised ₹1,000 per month, which was later raised to ₹1,250. There were strong expectations that the amount would be further increased to ₹1,500, especially after public commitments by the Chief Minister. However, no official confirmation or new raise has been announced yet.

Summary: Key Points to Know

  • Next installment of ₹1,250 expected after May 15, 2025

  • New registrations still on hold; no clear timeline from the government

  • Scheme currently benefits 1.27 crore women in Madhya Pradesh

  • Monthly cost to government is ₹1,550 crore

  • No official word yet on increasing the amount to ₹1,500

The Ladli Behna Yojana continues to be a lifeline for millions of women in Madhya Pradesh, but unless new registrations are opened and benefit amounts are revised, the scheme’s impact may remain limited in the long run.
