Jammu: On Thursday night, May 8, India swiftly thwarted Pakistan’s fresh attempts to strike military sites with drones and missiles, including in Jammu and Pathankot, after foiling similar bids at 15 places in northern and western regions of the country earlier that day.

Jammu, Rajasthan and Punjab plunged into darkness with electricity, which snapped soon after two powerful explosions were heard in the vicinity of the airport.

A blackout was enforced in several districts, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, in Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

The Indian military on Thursday, May 8, stated that Pakistan drone attacks were effectively engaged by Indian armed forces. “Pakistan attempted to hit various locations along India’s western borders with drones and missiles on Thursday night, but it could not succeed,” military officials said.

Pakistan attempted to target military stations in Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur, they said.

The Indian army also confirmed that military stations were targeted. However, there was no damage or loss.

Infiltration bid in Jammu

An infiltration bid was foiled by the border security forces in Jammu late on Thursday. This infiltration bid at the Samba boundary was confirmed by BSF Jammu on their official X handle. “At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K,” read the post.

8 missiles, Pak air force jet, and drones intercepted

A Pakistani Air Force jet was also shot down in the Pathankot sector by Indian air defence, reported ANI. However, an official confirmation from the government is awaited.

Indian air defence units successfully intercepted at least eight missiles fired by Pakistan towards the border areas of Jammu, including the strategically important Jammu Airport at Satwari on Thursday evening, defence sources said here.

The missiles were aimed at key locations, including Satwari (Jammu Airport), Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia.

As per another ANI report, two Pakistani drones were shot down by Indian Army Air Defence Units in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir.

“News reports with respect to suicide attacks by terrorists at Pathankot or Rajouri are completely false,” clarified military officials.

These tensions simmered down later in the night; however, shelling continued in border areas and the Line of Control. Reports also suggested that civilian areas were also targeted in Uri, and visuals from the incident also surfaced.
