To attract visitors, the Uttar Pradesh government has started Varanasi’s development and beautification programs. Five main ghats and others will soon be improved to become tourist destinations. Projects for the construction, beautification, and refurbishment of tourist facilities totalling Rs 32.93 crore have been authorised.
To start the work, a Rs 13 crore first amount has been made available. The number of visitors to Varanasi has steadily increased since the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor was built. To improve the visiting experience, development work is being done. A first payment of Rs 2.50 crore has been given for the beautification and tourist development of Assi Ghat, totalling Rs 6.20 crore.
The rehabilitation of Assi Ghat to Dashashwamedh Ghat has been approved for Rs 6.14 crore, of which Rs 2.50 crore has already been made available. With Rs 2.50 crore already allocated, Rs 6.16 crore would be used to renovate and beautify the ghats from Dashashwamedh Ghat to Kashi Vishwanath Temple Ghat.
For the ghats between Assi Ghat and Ravidas Ghat, a project of Rs 8.24 crore has been authorised, and Rs 3 crore has been made available. With Rs 2.50 crore already approved, the ghats between Golaghat and Namo Ghat would need Rs 6.17 crore for rehabilitation, beautification, and tourist development.
Additionally, Ramghat’s beautification and expansion in Chitrakoot would be accelerated. An extra Rs 12.50 crore has been allotted after the first tranche of Rs 75 lakh was made available last year.
