UP Defence Corridor Draws Rs 30,000 Crore in Investments with the Goal of Increasing Employment and National Security | Details

The Defence Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh is expected to provide new job opportunities and improve national security. With 170 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in place, an estimated Rs 30,000 crore would be invested in the corridor’s six nodes. A total of 57 investors have been assigned land.

The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor has attracted a lot of attention in the light of the continuing tensions between India and Pakistan. In Lucknow, Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhansi, Agra, and Chitrakoot, six nodes are being set up. To far, 57 industrial units have been established with investments of Rs 9462.8 crore. 16 businesses have been given 531.09 hectares of land in Jhansi, bringing in Rs 4372.81 crore in investment and generating 2,928 jobs.

Businesses producing explosives, ammo, and mid-calibre infantry weapons will be located at this node. Five businesses have been given 210.60 hectares in Kanpur, generating investments of Rs 1758 crore. This node will concentrate on small guns, bulletproof jackets, specialist textiles, and small, medium, and large-scale munitions.

With 24 enterprises allotted 64.001 hectares and a projected investment of Rs 1921 crore, Aligarh has drawn the most number of businesses. This node is becoming a centre for the production of radar, small guns, mechatronics, precise instruments, drones, ammunition, and counter-drone systems.

Twelve businesses, including BrahMos Aerospace, have been given 117.35 hectares in Lucknow, drawing in Rs 1411 crore in investment. BrahMos, the most powerful supersonic cruise missile in the world, will be produced at this node together with other missile systems, small guns, drones, ammunition, and defence packaging.
