New Delhi [India] May 9: Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS), has lauded batter Priyansh Arya as one of the standout players of the tournament, while also acknowledging the steady performance of Prabhsimran Singh.
In a recent clash against Delhi Capitals during the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, the match was unfortunately halted due to a failure in the floodlights.
Ponting remarked, “While Prabhsimran Singh has been the more reliable performer, young Priyansh Arya has emerged as one of the tournament's discoveries. I’ve consistently highlighted his talent, and he showcased it once again tonight,” as shared in a video by IPL.
During the match, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. Arya and Singh opened the innings aggressively, targeting the bowlers right from the start.
The Punjab team reached the 50-run milestone on the final ball of the fourth over.
Priyansh Arya achieved his half-century in just 25 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh secured his fourth consecutive fifty in IPL 2025 in 28 balls.
Arya scored 70 runs off 34 balls before being dismissed by DC bowler T Natarajan, with his innings featuring five fours and six sixes.
Ponting also commented on the effective left-right batting combination of Arya and Singh, stating, “They complement each other excellently. Priyansh is more adept against fast bowlers, while Arya excels against slower deliveries and spin. Their partnership is crucial, and we need them to continue performing well.”
At the time of the match's suspension, PBKS was at 122 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10.1 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh (50*) and Shreyas Iyer (0*) still at the crease.
