New Delhi [India] May 9: The playoff aspirations of Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have taken a hit following the abandonment of their match due to floodlight issues at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium on Thursday.
As a result of the canceled game, both teams received one point each. Following this, Punjab Kings climbed to third place in the standings, boasting 7 wins and 3 losses from their 12 matches, totaling 16 points.
Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS needs to secure victory in just one of their remaining two matches to ensure a playoff spot.
Even if they lose both matches, their chances of qualifying remain viable, contingent on their net run rate (NRR) and the results of other teams, given their current 16 points.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals are positioned fifth with 6 wins and 4 losses, accumulating 14 points from 12 matches. To solidify their playoff chances, the team led by Axar Patel must win both of their upcoming matches, which would elevate them to 18 points.
If DC manages to win one and lose the other, their qualification will depend on the outcomes of other matches and their NRR. However, losing both matches would eliminate them from the tournament, as they face Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) next.
Should DC lose to both GT and MI, it would pave the way for both teams to qualify for the playoffs, leaving Delhi out of contention. Currently, GT and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are leading the points table, each needing to win one of their remaining matches to secure their playoff positions.
