Mumbai: In Hinduism, the birth anniversaries of deities are considered deeply sacred, and Shani Jayanti is no exception. Marking the appearance of Lord Shani, the stern yet just deity of karma and discipline, this occasion holds special spiritual weight for millions of devotees. Observed on the Amavasya (new moon) of Jyeshtha month, Shani Jayanti is believed to be a potent time for worship, prayer, and karmic cleansing—especially for those suffering under Shani Dosha or the difficult period of Sade Sati in their astrological charts.

This year, Shani Jayanti falls on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, with the Amavasya tithi beginning on 26 May at 12:11 PM and concluding on 27 May at 8:31 PM, according to the Hindu Panchang. The day is marked not only by solemn rituals and offerings but also by acts of charity, which are said to pacify Lord Shani and reduce the intensity of his planetary influence. Followers believe that by performing specific remedies on this day, one can earn the blessings of Shani Dev and ease life’s hardships.

Shani Jayanti Remedies: What to Do on This Auspicious Day

1. Offer Charity: On Shani Jayanti, it is considered highly auspicious to donate black sesame seeds, black urad dal, black clothing, iron items, steel utensils, and blankets to the poor and needy. Such offerings are believed to invoke the grace of Lord Shani.

2. Worship Ritual: Visit a temple dedicated to Shani Dev and offer prayers. A traditional ritual involves viewing your reflection in mustard oil held in an iron or steel container, and then donating that oil to someone in need. This symbolic act is said to dissolve negative Shani influences.

3. Mantra Chanting and Feeding the Needy: Recite the mantra ‘Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah’ 108 times during both morning and evening. Additionally, feeding dogs, crows, cows, the differently abled, and the ill is considered an act of high virtue, believed to attract Shani’s blessings and remove scarcity from life.

4. Astrological Remedies for Shani Mahadasha: To ease the intensity of Shani’s major period (Mahadasha), mix black sesame seeds, wheat flour, and sugar and offer it to ants—starting from Shani Jayanti and continuing for seven consecutive Saturdays. You can also make small black urad dal balls and feed them to fish, which is believed to strengthen Saturn’s influence in one’s horoscope and bring long-term relief.
