IPL 2025 Suspended: The Board of Cricket Control in India has suspended the ongoing IPL 2025 amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict. This is only the second time a season of this league has been put on hold midway since the Covid-19 outbreak.
Everything started on April 22, when armed terrorists attacked and killed several tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. As India blamed Pakistan for the attack, the tensions between the two nations rose. Over the next few days, water treaties were stopped, and Pakistani citizens and diplomats were asked to leave India.
Then, in the early hours of May 7, India launched a massive counter-attack on nine terrorist bases inside Pakistani territory, downing over 100 militants but not attacking any civilian or military outposts. This surgical strike was named ‘Operation Sindoor’.
But now, both nations are on the brink of war. Border skirmishes and cross-border attacks are already underway. And now, the Indian Premier League has been suspended.
The May 8 game of the IPL between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals was being played in Dharamshala, about 100 km from the India-Pakistan border. The match was stopped mid-way as the nearby city of Pathankot was among many that were under fire by missiles yesterday, missiles that were intercepted by the Indian defence systems.

With IPL 2025 suspendedit remains to be seen what BCCI’s next move will be. It is highly unlikely that the season will resume anytime soon. More likely, after the IPL suspended due to war-like situation, the overseas players will be sent home. The league is likely to resume in the window of the India-Bangladesh series, which was to be played in August 2025.
As for the player’s response, the Indian players stand with the Indian Army. Indian Cricket Team’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma came out in support of our armed forces in a recent social media post, writing,
“With every passing moment, with every decision taken, I feel extremely proud of our Indian Army, Indian Airforce & Indian Navy. Our warriors are standing tall for our nation’s pride. It’s important for every Indian to be responsible and refrain from spreading or believing any fake news. Stay safe, everyone! #OperationSindoor #JaiHind,”
With India-Pakistan not nearing its end anytime soon, IPL updates will be few and far between from now on. But with drone attacks on the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan, that does not leave even sporting structures out of any possible attacks, making it impossible to continue the league.
