Leicester boss has dropped his clearest hint yet that he's about to leave the club. The Foxes will return to the next season after .

Van Nistelrooy, 48, but on Friday revealed that his aim is to 'leave the club in the best possible position' ahead of the final three games of what's been a miserable first season back in the top flight. The legend has called for 'clarity' but is yet to sit down with the hierarchy to discuss his future.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to , Van Nistelrooy was probed on whether he'll be the man tasked with bringing Leicester back up. "The responsibility of the manager is that you're working and doing everything you can in the interest of the football club," the Dutchman explained.

"That's the way I approach it. That's what the supporters can rely on, that I do that. And so the job that from day to day is, of course, developing and performing in the short term, but also doing everything I can to leave the club in the best position possible.

"And that's also part of the job, although within this situation, sometimes it's hard to do because there are certain things that are not clear enough. So that clarity will only help. But within the circumstances, I'm doing everything I can for for this football club.

"You want to move forward, and that clarity is important and will only help. I don't need to explain in all whatever is linked to this, clarity is clear. No need to emphasise it again, but patience is asked here."

Van Nistelrooy also said that Foxes supporters deserve clarity over his future. "I wish I could share more," he added.

"Obviously, we will when there's news, but there isn't. I think sharing with the fanbase, of information regarding the club is something very important that I think that we should do when it's there."

Leicester enjoyed their first win in 13 games last weekend, beating fellow relegated side 2-0. That was only Van Nistelrooy's third victory since replacing on a two-and-a-half-year deal in November, and he'll be hoping to add more between now and his likely departure.
