India on high alert: What’s shut, who’s on leave, and state-wise emergency measures

The retaliation occurred after increased Pakistani drone activity along the Line of Control (LoC). The defence ministry reported that drones were sighted at 26 locations from Jammu and Kashmir to Gujarat.

"Drones have been sighted at 26 locations along the International Border and LoC with Pakistan. These include suspected armed drones. The locations include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet and Lakhi Nala," the ministry said in a statement on X.

India responded with strikes targeting terrorist camps and Pakistani military infrastructure. ANI sources reported that at least four airbases in Pakistan were struck. Heavy explosions were reported in the Dibber area of Udhampur, and houses were damaged in Rajouri and Akhnoor due to shelling.

Pakistan claimed that Indian missiles and drones targeted its airbases in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, and Jhang districts. Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry stated that all air force assets were safe and vowed retaliation during a press conference in Islamabad. Subsequently, Pakistan state media reported a counter-attack, and the country’s airspace was temporarily closed.

Security sources indicate that India remains on high alert. Surface-to-air missile systems have been activated across northern regions, including Srinagar. Counter-drone operations are ongoing along the LoC as intermittent firing continues, according to ANI.

This escalation follows the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 deaths. Earlier this week, India launched 'Operation Sindoor', targeting and destroying nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
