Due to the growing tensions between the two countries, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Friday afternoon that it will halt the remaining IPL 2025 for one week, effective immediately.
“The remaining TATA IPL 2025 matches will be suspended for one week with immediate effect by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Following a thorough analysis of the situation in collaboration with pertinent authorities and stakeholders, further information about the tournament’s revised schedule and locations will be released when it’s ready,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in the statement.
“The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans; while the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders,” he stated.
As tensions between the two neighbouring nations increased later in the day, the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, which was originally scheduled to take place on May 24 at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium, was postponed till further notice.
“The first NC Classic edition has been postponed until further notice due to the present circumstances. The welfare of athletes, stakeholders, and the larger community is the first concern, and this decision has been taken after much consideration and deliberation,” NC Classic said on Instagram.
“We think that sport has the ability to bring people together. But the most important thing at this crucial time is to be steadfast with the country. Right now, we are only able to express our appreciation and thoughts to our Armed Forces, who are leading the way for our country. In due time, an updated NC Classic schedule will be released. The statement ended, “Jai Hind.”
