After leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit has had a tumultuous few months. He has been heavily criticised for his recent poor batting performance in Test cricket. Regarding the criticism of his recent struggles, especially in Test cricket, Rohit offered some intriguing comments.

“Sportspeople are subject to criticism. Criticism is vital and essential. But needless criticism is what I oppose. In an interview with journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit said, “I don’t like it.”

“A lot of things were spoken about me. However, I ignore all of that, and it has no effect on me,” Rohit said.

According to Rohit, he was unfairly chastised for allegedly being vulnerable to left-arm pacers. Nevertheless, he decided not to reply to the critiques and instead concentrated on his performance. He continued by saying he wanted to concentrate on his performances in the face of intense rumours.

“A lot of things have been stated about me, such as that I can’t play fast bowlers with left arms, but I don’t care about it anymore. Now, many things may go wrong if you go and defend it. Additionally, you will be wasting time, and time is valuable. Attacking is what I do,” Rohit said.

It should be mentioned that Rohit is considered to be one of the finest hitters in contemporary cricket and has had great success in white-ball forms. He has also shown potential in Test cricket with his aggressive batting style. But under his leadership, India has recently had terrible performances, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and the Test series against New Zealand at home. India did not go to the World Test Championship final for the third consecutive year, and Rohit felt upset with his performance in both of the pivotal series.

In ODI cricket, Rohit has scored more than 11,000 runs, while in Test cricket, he has scored over 4,000 runs. The 38-year-old retired from T20I cricket after guiding the team to the 2024 T20 World Cup victory, but he is also India’s all-time top run scorer in the sport.

With Rohit declaring his retirement from Test cricket, all eyes will be on the BCCI selection committee to decide the next skipper in the format, with Jasprit Bumrah and Shubman Gill emerging as viable candidates.
