Following this, a throwback interview of her talking about her father's death resurfaced on the web. Nimrat Kaur once revealed how her father Major Bhupender Singh was killed by terrorists in Kashmir. In an interview with entertainment news portal Etimes, Nimrat Kauronce revealed that her father was an engineer posted on the border roads of the army in a place called Verinag. It is a valley that comes after Jawahar Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. She shared that the family was visiting her father over winter break in 1994 when he was kidnapped by the terrorists. "We were on our winter vacation in January 1994 and visiting our father in Kashmir, when the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen kidnapped him from his place of work and after seven days, terminated him. They had made some ridiculous demands of some terrorists to be released that he obviously did not agree to. He was just 44 when he died. We got the news and flew back with his body to Delhi, and I saw his body for the first time only in Delhi," she said. The Lunchbox actress further revealed that her father was then posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra. The actress mentioned that the lowest period in her life was the time when her father died. She mentioned that it was difficult for her to move into civilian life. But she also shared that the army stood by the family like rock. "They are your family, and even today, they will come at the drop of a hat if you need something, and they will do anything for you," she said.
Nimrat Kaur also mentioned that it was only after The Lunchbox had its premiere at Cannes that she visited Kashmir again. She mentioned that she stayed for 10 days all alone and even visited Verinag. Nimrat Kaur, who was last seen in Sky Force, will next be seen in Section 84. The film stars Abhishek Banerjee, Amitabh Bachchan and others in key roles.
