New Delhi: Due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 has been postponed despite the Pakistan Cricket Boards earlier announcement of relocating the tournament to the UAE. Reports of foreign players departures amidst the heightened tensions have been confirmed by Bangladeshs Rishad Hossain who also revealed details about New Zealand player Daryl Mitchells situation.
Rishad Hossain told Cricbuzz that several international cricketers including Sam Billings Daryl Mitchell Kusal Perera David Wiese and Tom Curran expressed fear regarding playing in Pakistan. Mitchell reportedly stated he would not play in Pakistan again.
“Foreign players like Sam Billings Daryl Mitchell Kushal Perera David Wiese Tom Curran… all of them were so frightened… Landing in Dubai Mitchell told me that he would never go to Pakistan again especially in this kind of scenario. Overall they were all horrified” Rishad said.
Indian cricket officials reportedly including ICC chairman Jay Shah successfully lobbied the Emirates Cricket Board to decline hosting the 2025 Pakistan Super League. Shahs close ties with ECB members are cited as a key factor in this decision.
We owe it to the BCCI and Jay Bhai an ECB official told Cricbuzz thus confirming why they chose not to host the PSL 2025.
The ECB initially rejected the Pakistan Cricket Boards (PCB) request to use the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL). Subsequently the ECBs proposed rental fee was deemed excessively high by the PCB given its current financial constraints.
