Blackout Orders Issued in Punjab

On Saturday, the Punjab government reinstated blackout orders in several districts. This precautionary measure was taken just hours after an agreement for an immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

Previously, the district administration had lifted blackout and other restrictive measures. The blackout protocols are now in effect in districts including Hoshiarpur, Firozpur, Fazilka, Pathankot, Patiala, Moga, and Muktsar.

Commissioner of Amritsar, Sakshi Sahni, stated that due to reports of ceasefire violations, they would remain on alert today. She advised everyone to be prepared for a blackout if necessary and to stay indoors, urging citizens to refrain from setting off fireworks. This is a precautionary exercise that has been conducted multiple times, so there is no need for panic.

The Hoshiarpur district administration reported that the blackout commenced at 8:50 PM, accompanied by an air raid siren. In Firozpur, the blackout was initiated at 8:40 PM, with officials urging residents to turn off their lights.

A message from the administration reassured citizens that there was no cause for alarm. An official in Fazilka indicated that the blackout would be enforced from 9:30 PM, while in Rupnagar, it would last from 9:30 PM until 5:30 AM.

The Ludhiana district administration requested that residents remain indoors and voluntarily participate in the blackout where possible, given the changing circumstances.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana emphasized that while there is no significant cause for concern, a voluntary blackout should be ensured as a precaution. Sangrur district also announced a blackout from 9:10 PM to 11 PM.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during a midnight press conference, called on Pakistan to take 'appropriate steps' to address these violations and to handle the situation with 'seriousness and responsibility.'

He mentioned that armed forces have been instructed to respond strictly to any recurrence of border violations along the international border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Misri noted, 'There have been repeated violations of the agreement reached today between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan.' He stated, 'This is a breach of the agreement made earlier today.'

Following the ceasefire announcement, markets and shops that had previously been closed in areas such as Pathankot and Kapurthala reopened. In Punjab, remnants of a missile were discovered in the village of Dubli in the districts of Amritsar, Beas, Jalandhar, Pathankot, and Tarn Taran.

Residents of Rajubela Chichharan village in Gurdaspur reported a loud explosion early in the morning, creating a crater approximately 35 feet wide and 15 feet deep. A police officer confirmed that there were no casualties, but power lines were damaged.
