Team India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah reportedly remains unwilling to take over as Test captain, with the position open after Rohit Sharma's retirement ahead of the England tour. According to Sky Sports, the right-arm speedster has ruled himself out of the frame as he is non-committal about playing all five Tests in England. The 31-year-old was arguably one of the favourites to succeed Rohit, given he has captained India in Tests on three occasions. Although Bumrah-led India lost to England in 2022, the Asian Giants had crushed Australia in Perth during the five-Test series last year. The star bowler had returned to the role after Rohit claimed to have dropped himself from the Sydney Test. However, India lost that match after Bumrah's back injury rendered him unable to bowl on day four. With Bumrah reportedly ruling himself out of captaincy role, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are in the running to take over as captain.Virat Kohli likely to follow Rohit Sharma into Test retirementMeanwhile, India are likely to suffer another jolt ahead of the five-Test tour of England as Virat Kohli will reportedly follow Rohit Sharma into retiring from the longest format. As per reports, the 36-year-old has reportedly communicated his decision to quit the format. However, top BCCI officials are likely to communicate with him to change his mind as it leaves India with a largely inexperienced batting order. The Test series against England begins on June 20 in Leeds.
