New Delhi: National award-winning actor Anupam Kher has donned the director’s hat yet again as he prepares to release his next directorial bid, Tanvi the Great. The film will be premiering at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival under the Marche du Film section this year. The veteran actor announced his new directorial debut on his 69th birthday through a heartwarming video with his mother, which he shared via Instagram.

Highly anticipated project

The film will be produced under the Anupam Kher banner and was the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) also joined in as co-producer. Kher introduced Game of Thrones fame Lain Glen, veteran actor Boman Irani, and a fresh face, Shubhangi Dutt, as the leading casts of his film. A recent addition to this well-curated list is our very own, Anupam’s “brother from another mother”, Jackie Shroff.

The film would be made available for global audiences across major cities, including London, New York, and Los Angeles, with the efforts made by the production team. The Oscar-winning producer M.M. Keeravani would be contributing to the movie with his incredible musical prowess, while the Cinematography is done by Keiko Nakahara.

Anupam Kher has appeared in over 500 films across Bollywood and Hollywood over the years and made his directorial debut with the movie Om Jai Jagadish, starring acting giants Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan. The film, which he believes has a universal theme and would connect with hearts everywhere, will make its global premiere soon.

Latest addition

The Special 26 actor made this announcement through his latest Instagram post, introducing Jackie Shroff in the character of Brig. Joshi in the film. Talking about how the casting came through, he says, “One day, he dropped in at my place. I was yet to cast my film, Tanvi the Great, but I had recorded a few songs. I made him listen to them. He was quiet for a long time after listening to them. Then he hugged me and said, ‘Don’t make this film without me.’”

Kher also thanked Shroff for “his selfless friendship and brilliant acting.” Brig. Joshi is someone who is compassionate, decisive, and strong, much like any other Indian army officer, said Kher of Shroff’s character.
