In an unforgettable El Clásico at the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys, FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 4-3. This result that could decide the fate of this season’s La Liga title.
Kylian Mbappé gave Madrid a dream start with two quick goals, but Barcelona turned the game around in stunning fashion. Eric García got one back, Lamine Yamal scored the equaliser, and Raphinha netted twice to give the hosts a 4-2 lead at halftime. Mbappé completed his hat-trick after the break, but Real couldn’t find a late equaliser.
Barcelona now sit seven points clear at the top of the table, with just three games left to play. Their remaining matches are against Espanyol (away), Villarreal (home), and Athletic Club (away). All these fixtures seems to be easy for the club who are in great run of form.
Real Madrid still have three games to go as well, they’ll face Mallorca at home, Sevilla away, and Real Sociedad at home.
So the question remains here is – Can Madrid still win the title? Technically yes, but the chances are very slim. They must win all three of their games and hope Barcelona lose all of theirs, a scenario that looks very unlikely at this stage. A draw in one of Barcelona’s three pending games would also be helpful for Real Madrid if they win all of their three.
However, it is not as easy as this writing piece says, Madrid will have to hope that Barcelona bottle up their 7-goal lead which could make way for their triumph.
To make matters worse, there’s growing talk that manager Carlo Ancelotti could leave at the end of the season, possibly to take over Brazil’s national team. That uncertainty might already be affecting the team’s focus and stability.
