Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a reliable and safe retirement saving option for millions of employed people in India. Under this scheme, every employee contributes 12% of his basic salary and dearness allowance (DA). At the same time, the same amount is also contributed by the employer. Every year, EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organization) provides a fixed interest rate on this deposit amount, due to which a good amount is deposited till retirement.

Checking EPFO balance has become even easier.

It is very easy to know the amount deposited in the EPF account, especially when you need it in an emergency. For this, you neither need to log in to any website nor go to the EPFO office. You can get information about your EPF balance through just a missed call or SMS, and that too for free.

1. Check EPF balance through missed call
Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number. Within a few moments, you will receive your EPF account details through SMS.

2. Check EPF balance through SMS

This service is available in different languages. If you want information in Hindi, write EPFOHO UAN HIN in the SMS.

UAN number is mandatory
To avail of these facilities of EPFO, your UAN (Universal Account Number) must be active. If your UAN is not activated yet, it can be activated easily:

Check the balance from the EPFO website.

Activate your UAN number by following the instructions given there. Also, ensure that your mobile number and at least one KYC document (such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, or bank account) are linked with UAN.

EPFO not only provides financial security after retirement but also proves helpful in case of an emergency. So keep checking your EPF account balance from time to time and ensure that your UAN is active and updated.
