After suffering a 2-0 loss to West Ham in the English Premier League, Manchester United's coach, Ruben Amorim, has revealed his intention to depart from Old Trafford. He emphasized that the issues at the club extend far beyond just the Europa League trophy. West Ham managed to score once in each half, sealing their victory.
In a post-match press conference, a visibly frustrated Amorim stated that it is time for 'all of us' to step back and allow new individuals to take charge. He expressed concern that the team is losing its identity as a prestigious club. When questioned about Manchester United's current standing in the league, he admitted feeling embarrassed and found it difficult to come to terms with the situation.
Amorim highlighted the necessity for a cultural shift within the club and the team. He remarked, "This is a crucial moment in the club's history. We must be resolute and courageous this summer, as we cannot afford another season like this. If the current atmosphere persists, we should allow others to take over."
He also pointed out the team's lack of urgency in securing victories, stating, "At times, we seem unfocused on the Premier League. Unlike our approach in the Europa League, we lack the drive to win. This absence of urgency is a significant concern."
Despite a commendable performance in the UEFA Europa League, Manchester United currently finds itself in 16th place in the Premier League standings. The team has managed to secure only 10 wins out of 36 matches, accumulating a total of 39 points. They are just one point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, whom they are set to face in the Europa League finals.
