From May 25 to June 2 (IST), the Indian junior women’s hockey team is prepared to go on an exciting trip to Argentina for a friendly Four Nations Tournament.
The squad will play six friendly matches against Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina in Rosario, Argentina. India will play back-to-back matches against Chile and Uruguay on May 25 and 26, respectively, as the tournament gets off on May 25. They will play the hosts, Argentina, on May 28 after a day off.
The squad will then play Chile on May 30, Uruguay on June 1, and Argentina on June 2 in the return leg, following the same order. The team’s preparations for the FIH Hockey Junior Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Santiago, Chile, in December 2025, heavily rely on this visit.
Coach Tushar Khandker of the Indian junior women’s hockey team discussed the significance of the friendly games, saying, “We are looking to identify the best of the best from this squad with the World Cup in mind, as we are preparing for the Junior World Cup later this year and the tour to Rosario is a Four Nations tournament. Our goal is to acquire as much experience as we can and evaluate our current situation in light of previous performances to determine how far we have progressed.
“Every time you play an international match, whether it be a tour, bilateral series, test match, or tournament, you are representing India,” Khandker said in response to a question about the rival teams. Therefore, regardless of the opponent, the goal is always to give it your all and perform to the best of your abilities. In order to provide the ladies with the experience and confidence they need in advance of the Junior World Cup, our primary goal in this event will be to carry out our plans efficiently and provide them with as many match chances as possible.”
In order to adjust and be ready for the competition, the Indian Junior Women’s Team is expected to leave for Rosario, Argentina on May 21.
