Suspension of Helicopter Services in Uttarakhand

Currently, the Char Dham pilgrimage is ongoing in Uttarakhand. A helicopter operated by Thumbi Aviation lost control while taking off from the Badrinath helipad. In response to this incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a suspension on Thumbi Aviation's helicopter services until further notice.

Additionally, flights from Fata to Kedarnath operated by Thumbi Aviation will not be conducted. Passengers who had booked tickets for the Kedarnath journey with Thumbi are being transferred to another helicopter service provider.

It is important to note that the helicopter accident occurred in Gangnani, Uttarkashi district, and just four days later, on May 12, the helicopter at Badrinath helipad lost control during takeoff. The helicopter's rotor blades collided with a nearby vehicle, narrowly avoiding a major disaster. The DGCA has taken this incident seriously and has halted all helicopter services from Thumbi Aviation until the investigation is concluded.

Thumbi Aviation was providing helicopter services from Fata helipad to Kedarnath Dham. On Monday, the helicopter arrived at Badrinath helipad with passengers. After dropping off some passengers, it was preparing to take off again when it lost control. Passengers who had booked tickets for Kedarnath with Thumbi Aviation will now be shifted to services from Guptkashi and Sirsi. The nodal officer for the Kedarnath helicopter service confirmed the suspension of Thumbi Aviation's operations by the DGCA, stating that services will remain suspended until the investigation is complete.
