Mussoorie is a quiet and beautiful hill station located in Uttarakhand, also known as the queen of the mountains. 202 years ago, when the British turned to the mountains to escape the heat, Mussoorie became their first choice.

Captain Young built a hut here and from here Mussoorie’s settlement started. Due to this place being at height, it remains cold even in the summer, hence the British made it their summer capital. Gradually, markets, churches, schools and roads developed here and this place became a famous hill station. Mussoorie is not only known for its beautiful litigants, but its historical significance is equally special.

Mussoorie was named on a bush named ‘Mansoor’

Mussoorie was named on a bush named ‘Mansoor’, which was found in abundance in the region. Initially this area was quiet and deserted, but the British officers liked it very much and they built many buildings here. Mussoorie not only made a summer resort of the British, but the entry of Indians was also banned here. At that time there were boards like ‘Indians and Dogs Not Allowed’ on Mall Road. This period was before the freedom struggle in India. It is said that this discrimination was first opposed by Motilal Nehru.

Old heritage can be felt even today

The history of Mussoorie is not limited to tourism only, but also gives a glimpse of freedom struggle.
Today Mussoorie has become a modern hill station, but its old heritage can still be felt. The cedar and pine forests, calm lakes, waterfalls and mountains, spread around here, fascinate anyone. Walking in the streets of Mussoorie, you can feel both history and nature together. Away from the speed of the city, the relaxed atmosphere here relaxes everyone.

How can it be reached?

It is very easy to reach Mussoorie. Dehradun is its nearest railway station and airport, which is connected to all the major cities of the country. The distance from Dehradun to Mussoorie is just 35 kilometers and you can reach there comfortably by taxi or bus. The best time to visit Mussoorie is between March to June, when the weather is very pleasant. Between September and November, the weather here is good and congestion is also less.
