Selena Gomez faces backlash over startup layoffs and unpaid salaries

Popular American singer, songwriter, producer, businesswoman, and actress Selena Gomez is under intense criticism following reports that her mental health startup is having trouble paying employee wages and has begun laying off workers.

Gomez’s firm Wondermind is allegedly in a financial crisis, as recently reported. The firm has also been unable to pay salaries as they are due and has actually cut down the healthcare benefits provided to its staff.

Adding to the furor, it was alleged that Selena’s mother took out a loan to assist in paying the company’s business loans. This has sparked online outrage, particularly considering that 33-year-old Selena is one of the richest celebrities in the music world.

After the Forbes story in which Gomez’s financial woes and mistreatment of staff were relayed, people have been attacking Gomez on social media for running a company that espouses mental health while refusing to take care of its own employees.

Earlier, A significant highlight in Selena Gomez’s career comes from winning her very first Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award at the 2025 screeds. The actress had been awarded Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for her fabulous performance made in the acclaimed series, Only Murders in the Building. This has turned out to be a milestone achievement for Gomez, who has managed to become part and parcel of its success with co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Those were, however, the very same reasons why the two, being Martin and Short, missed the occasion-their work schedules and some health issues. Gomez humorously accepted the award on behalf of both stars, entirely thanking them for their chemistry and the collaborative work.
