All qualified minority students will get financial help thanks to the Uttar Pradesh government’s large increase in funding for minority scholarships this year. Budgetary restrictions prevented more than 145,000 students from receiving scholarships last year, out of a total of Rs 220 crore. Nonetheless, the government has set aside Rs 361 crore for minority scholarships this year, which includes an increase of Rs 7 crore for pre-matric scholarships and an increase of Rs 134 crore for post-matric scholarships and tuition reimbursements.
With this budget increase, 150,000 additional students will be eligible for scholarships, increasing the number of students who are anticipated to receive financial aid to 518,000. Two categories of scholarships are offered by the Minority Welfare Department: post-matric scholarships and tuition reimbursements for students above class 11, with a maximum annual scholarship of Rs 50,000, and pre-matric scholarships for children in classes 9 and 10, with an annual scholarship of Rs 3,000.
Due to financial limitations, only 102,000 of the 143,000 students who were qualified for pre-matric scholarships last year actually obtained them. Similarly, just 265,000 of the 374,000 students who applied for post-matric scholarships were awarded one, leaving 109,000 students without financial aid.
The government has raised the expenditures for pre-matric scholarships by Rs 7 crore to Rs 37 crore and post-matric scholarships by Rs 134 crore to Rs 324 crore in order to solve these problems. About 150,000 more students will now be eligible for scholarships thanks to the extra Rs 141 crore, according to SN Pandey, joint director of the Minority Welfare Department.
It is anticipated that this large increase in financing would provide qualified minority students much-needed financial help and guarantee that no worthy student is left behind because of financial constraints.
