If they pass the NEET test, children of workers insured by the UP workers’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) may study MBBS for a small yearly cost of only Rs 4,000. Under its “Ward of IP” (Insured Persons) program, ESIC now operates 11 medical institutions around India that provide reasonably priced medical education. Additionally, the ESIC facilities in Varanasi and Noida are scheduled to launch the MBBS program shortly.

This declaration was announced during the 83rd ESIC Regional Council meeting, which took place on Tuesday at the Secretariat’s Tilak Hall. The discussion emphasized the need to raise awareness of ESIC’s welfare programs, especially those pertaining to healthcare and education. Despite their importance, many recipients are still ignorant of these programs, according to Insurance Commissioner Pranav Sinha.

Anil Rajbhar, the Council Chairman and Minister of Labor and Employment, emphasized the need to promote the corporation’s activities and requested a follow-up meeting within three months. In order to increase access, he emphasized the need of routine inspections of ESIC hospitals and dispensaries and recommended that dispensaries be opened or relocated as needed.

According to Regional Director and Member Secretary KC Jha, the ESIC plan is now operational in 74 of Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts, with Banda expected to join shortly. The company has hired 34 empaneled physicians and three Unani physicians in an effort to enhance healthcare delivery. It has also inked partnerships with 109 private hospitals.

But the discussion also highlighted the severe lack of medical personnel at ESIS facilities. Only eight of the 52 authorized positions for specialist physicians at ten state hospitals are occupied at the moment. This shortage has impacted service quality and resulted in the underutilization of several hospital beds. In order to fill these shortages, the council emphasized how vital it is to hire both physicians and paramedical personnel.

A number of people attended the meeting, including Council Member Dr. Vijay Singh Chauhan, Principal Secretary (Labor) Dr. MK Shanmuga Sundaram, Special Secretary (Labor) Nilesh Kumar Singh, State Labor Minister Manohar Lal Mannu Kori, and employee representatives.
