The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued two alerts for smartphone users. These alerts have been issued keeping in mind iPhone, iPad, and Android smartphone users. The government agency says that it has detected some flaws in iOS, iPadOS, and Android OS, taking advantage of which scammers can hack users' devices or steal their personal information. In its alert, CERT-In has advised Apple and Android smartphone and tablet users to update their devices immediately.
Android and iOS users at risk
CERT-In has stated in its alert that it has discovered several bugs affecting the Android operating system. Taking advantage of these bugs, hackers can run dangerous software on Android devices. Along with this, they also steal their data. Along with this, DoS attacks can also be done on the device by taking advantage of these bugs.
CERT-In says that these bugs have been seen on Android 13, Android 14, and Android 15. The government agency says that all devices running on this software can be easily attacked by scammers. They have advised users to update the latest security patch as soon as possible.
The government agency has clarified that to avoid these bugs, users will have to install the latest Android security patch of May. The latest security patch for Android devices has been released on May 1. However, it may take some time for smartphone companies to release this update.
Alert for iPhone and iPad users
CERT-In has issued a warning for Android as well as Apple users in its alert. It states that iPhone models running on software released before iOS 18.3 or iPad models running on iPadOS 18.3 (and iPadOS 17.7.3 on older models) are also vulnerable to DoS attacks. The government agency says that devices with older software need to be updated immediately.
CERT-In said that users who have updated to iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and iPadOS 17.7.3 can avoid DoS attacks. Along with this, iPhones running on Apple's latest iOS 18.5 released recently are also safe from this bug.
