Pilot Calls for Government Response

Jaipur: On Wednesday, Sachin Pilot, the AICC general secretary, urged the Indian government to clarify its position regarding US President Donald Trump's comments about mediation between India and Pakistan.

Pilot expressed his dismay, stating that Trump not only neglected the critical issue of terrorism but also attempted to draw parallels between India and Pakistan, thereby internationalizing the Kashmir dispute.

"The US president claimed he facilitated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan by leveraging increased trade. This assertion is astonishing," Pilot remarked to the media.

"India has engaged in multiple wars, yet this marks the first instance where a foreign leader has declared a ceasefire. Shortly after, our Director General of Military Operations confirmed it. This sequence raises significant concerns," he added.

He criticized Trump's failure to mention terrorism, emphasizing that state-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan is the core issue affecting India-Pakistan relations. Unfortunately, Trump has not addressed this at all.

"Neither the US administration nor Vice President J.D. Vance has condemned Pakistan's involvement in cross-border terrorism or provided any assurances to halt it," the Congress leader stated.

Pilot dismissed the US's attempts to involve Kashmir in the dialogue, asserting that it is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan, not subject to external intervention.

"Our primary concern is terrorism, not Kashmir. By introducing Kashmir into the discussion, Trump has unnecessarily complicated the situation," the former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan remarked.

He recalled a resolution passed unanimously by Parliament in 1994, which called for the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), urging the government to hold a special parliamentary session to reaffirm this commitment and eliminate any confusion.

"The 1994 resolution is documented. Given recent developments and misleading narratives, a special session should be convened to reiterate this resolution, ensuring clarity on India's stance," he stated.

Pilot noted that Trump's narrative seems to attempt to re-hyphenate India and Pakistan.

"Thanks to efforts over the past two decades, India has developed a larger economy and a global presence. Discussions have shifted to Indo-China regarding economy, population, and military. However, this recent development risks reverting us to the early 90s, when India and Pakistan were viewed as equals, which is concerning," he explained.

He emphasized that India should not be compared to Pakistan.

Pilot expressed concern that there appears to be an effort to weigh India and Pakistan equally again, which poses risks for diplomacy, foreign policy, and India's future.

He commended the defense forces for their successful execution of Operation Sindoor, which effectively targeted terrorist infrastructure.

"Operation Sindoor is an exemplary operation, and the precision with which our forces executed it is commendable," he concluded.
