Mental Health Crisis in Odisha Police

Balasore: A sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in Balasore district, Odisha, has reportedly threatened to take his own life due to alleged mental harassment from the Superintendent of Police, according to official sources.

Brajamohan Pradhan, aged 58, who serves as the SDPO for Basta and also holds the additional responsibility for Jaleswar, has accused Balasore SP Raj Prasad of publicly humiliating him and overburdening him with dual responsibilities.

Pradhan claims that he is not receiving adequate support from his office to effectively perform his duties.

He has demanded the removal of his additional charge for Jaleswar, stating that he would resort to suicide if his plea is ignored.

Following his distress, he was taken to a government hospital in Jaleswar after experiencing discomfort.

In response, DIG of Eastern Range, Satyajit Naik, visited Pradhan in the hospital to check on his health and discuss his concerns.

Naik mentioned that he had previously addressed Pradhan's allegations against the SP, which included claims of harassment and mistreatment.

The DIG is currently investigating the situation and considering various aspects of the allegations.

Attempts to reach the SP for comments were unsuccessful.

BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty took to social media to express his disapproval of the treatment of a tribal officer, especially given that Odisha is led by a tribal chief minister who oversees the Home Department.
