Former England captain Nasser Hussain said that Virat Kohli, 36, had a profound impact on Team India’s cricketing style after he retired from Test matches.

“We know Indian cricket fans, and the game means so much to them,” the speaker said on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast. No one in India more personified that love for cricket than Kohli, and they want their captain to demonstrate to them what it means to the squad. He was a fantastic player. For around 42 months, he led India to the top of the international rankings. The way they play cricket has been totally transformed by him. “Whoever assumes that role has a responsibility to fulfill,” Hussain said.

The former English cricket player said that he had been a Kohli admirer for more than 14 years.

“Over the last 14 years, I have been a huge supporter of Virat Kohli; his numbers speak for themselves, but he was much more than that. It was his enthusiasm, attitude, and charisma,” he said.

With 123 games played and 9,230 runs scored, the Indian ended his Test career. In the game’s longest format, he also recorded 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. In his capacity as captain, the veteran also guided India to 40 victories in 68 Test matches.

In addition to praising Kohli, the 57-year-old said that he is the ultimate winner and has no desire to be a typical cricket player.

“He views the final result as a victory and is anxious for it; he is the ultimate winner. For Kohli, winning is everything. Why do you believe his run chase skills are so strong? He cannot ever say, “I’ll just do my best today,” or get onto the field without giving it his all. The fact that he doesn’t want to be a typical cricket player who only plays sometimes may have contributed to his decision to quit. He turned India into the powerhouse it is today,” Hussain said.

The five-match Test series between Team India and England will now begin on June 30. The Indian think tank has not yet chosen their next Test captain and will be without Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
