Congress politicians Pawan Khera and Jairam Ramesh have targeted BJP leader Amit Malviya, questioning the ruling party's diplomatic and trade ties with nations supporting Pakistan amidst rising tensions following the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack. Their remarks came after Malviya shared a video accusing both leaders of being 'disconnected' and 'wrong' in their response to public sentiments post-attack.
Malviya, who oversees the BJP's national information and technology department, stated that Congress deserves 'political oblivion and complete isolation.' In a post on X, he expressed that the nation is outraged by the support Pakistan receives from Turkey and Azerbaijan. He noted a growing demand to boycott trade and tourism with these countries, emphasizing that private citizens are standing in solidarity. He criticized Congress for failing to connect with the broader sentiments of the Indian populace, suggesting that their political anonymity and isolation are well-deserved.
In a sharp rebuttal, Pawan Khera urged the PMO and S. Jaishankar to clarify whether the Indian government has severed all diplomatic and trade relations with Turkey and closed its embassy there, asserting that decisions regarding international relations should be made by the government, not the opposition. He called for the Ministry of External Affairs to provide clarity on the matter.
Jairam Ramesh also took to X, demanding that the PMO and Jaishankar explain why the Modi government normalized relations with China despite its ongoing incursions into Indian territory. He questioned whether the Prime Minister misled the public by giving China a clean chit for its actions on June 19, 2020, thereby causing irreparable harm to national interests.
