A building will be given a digital connectivity rating, keeping in mind aspects such as fiber connectivity, Wi-Fi infrastructure, availability of mobile networks, in-building solutions, and quality of service. This rating will promote better digital connectivity infrastructure in buildings and will benefit the people living in them.

To give digital connectivity rating to buildings, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a draft manual, which includes several standards for assessing digital connectivity. According to this manual, it has been said to give a digital connectivity rating to the building based on services such as fiber connectivity, Wi-Fi infrastructure, availability of mobile networks, and in-building solutions.

According to TRAI, this rating manual will promote a transparent and standardized system, so that various digital connectivity rating agencies (DCRA) can evaluate properties on the same parameters. TRAI has urged all stakeholders to send their suggestions by June 2 and counter-suggestions by June 9 so that this system can be further improved.

The draft manual states that maximum data consumption today takes place inside buildings. In such a situation, in-building connectivity has become extremely important, especially for 4G and 5G networks, as they are based on high-frequency bands that are weakened by walls and structural barriers. This manual will also act as a guide for property managers so that they can create better digital connectivity infrastructure (DCI) in their buildings. Buildings with good digital ratings will attract users, buyers and investors, which can also increase the market value of those properties.
