In light of the prevailing summer heat, Collector Dr. S. Venkateswar has instructed relevant authorities to take careful precautions and make sure the Swarna Andhra and Swachh Andhra programs are implemented effectively across the district.
The Collector spoke about the flagship campaigns’ current state and agencies’ readiness to handle summer circumstances during a teleconference on Friday. MPDOs, Tahsildars, District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Suseela Devi, Tirupati Municipal Commissioner N. Mourya, and representatives from other relevant departments attended the meeting. In order to assist people in dealing with the increasing heat, Dr. Venkateswar emphasized throughout the conversation the need to install and maintain “Chalivendras” (drinking water kiosks), shaded shelters, and shade nets in every location. Even if the weather has somewhat improved, the Collector warned that heatstroke is still a risk and that public awareness initiatives are necessary to avoid these occurrences.
The Collector gave staff instructions to apply cool white paints to high-traffic locations first and to plant rooftop gardens on government buildings. Temporary shelters should be set up in locations that the public visits often, and shade nets should be placed at major intersections. With awareness campaigns and health camps aimed at avoiding heat-related diseases, special attention must be given to youngsters and the elderly.
Shade nets, water kiosks, and covered shelters have already been installed at several locations inside the municipality, according to Municipal Commissioner N. Mourya. He promised that the other locations would soon be covered and said that local secretaries would be attending awareness seminars on rooftop gardens and planting campaigns.
DPO Suseela Devi emphasized how animals and birds suffer from a shortage of drinking water, pointing out that bird fatalities have been reported in some places. In order to keep animals hydrated during the heat, she recommended setting up clay water pots in parks and temples.
