On Friday, more than 125 of the nation’s leading business executives decided to boycott travel and tourism as well as any other economic and trade activities with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Additionally, the trade leaders urged the Indian film industry to refrain from filming any movies in Turkey or Azerbaijan, stating that both the business community and the general public would boycott such films if they were shot. Corporate entities are also cautioned by the resolution not to film any product advertising videos in Turkey or Azerbaijan.
Representatives from 24 states attended a National Conference of Trade Leaders held here by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), where the decision was made. The conference reaffirmed the need to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and to fiercely oppose anybody who is against India at this pivotal moment.
At a time when India is dealing with a delicate and urgent national security issue, the resolution is a reaction to the recent open support for Pakistan shown by Turkey and Azerbaijan. Given India’s historical diplomatic and humanitarian assistance to both of these nations, the Indian commercial community as a whole sees this as a betrayal.
“It is extremely regrettable that Turkey and Azerbaijan, who have profited from India’s goodwill, aid, and strategic support in times of distress, have now chosen to side with Pakistan — a country known globally for its support to terrorism,” said CAIT Secretary General and Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal, who spoke to the crowd. In addition to harming India’s national interest and sovereignty, their stance openly offends the feelings of 140 crore Indians.
The meeting observed that Turkey’s persistent support for India and its frequent use of anti-Indian rhetoric on international forums
While Azerbaijan’s support for Pakistan’s position and its alliance with Turkey show a troubling disrespect for India’s long-standing friendship and support, Pakistan’s narrative is unacceptable.
